Old Tao Nan School Building

The Tao Nan School was founded in 1906 by Chinese philanthropists from the Singapore Hokkien Association. Its initial location was at the Siam House on North Bridge Road and was later relocated to the present Armenian Street in 1916. It became the first school to conduct lessons in Mandarin (instead of Hokkien) in Singapore then.

All of us heading to school!

However, as families moved out to the suburb, the school moved to Marine Parade where it still resides today. The old building is now the Peranakan Museum, serving as a medium to preserve knowledge and culture.
